Butternut squash is a type of winter squash that is medium-sized and has a bright orange color. It has a dense, moist texture and a sweet, nutty, buttery flavor. Roasting is the most popular method of cooking butternut squash, but it can also be simmered, steamed, microwaved, or grilled.
